Device Templates
Device templates define what a device displays and how the checkout works — the campaign source, checkout mode, maximum donation, and fallback content.
A device template is the configuration layer between a physical device and your campaigns. It defines which campaign or campaign group the device shows, how checkout works, and what fallback content to display. Multiple devices can share the same template, making templates a powerful way to manage fleets of devices from a single configuration.
Content Source#
Every template points to a published campaign or campaign group as its content source. The campaign provides the media, title, giving amounts, and messaging that appear on the device. If the template points to a campaign group, the group's mode (aggregate or split) determines how the campaigns are presented.
Only published campaigns and groups are available as content sources. If a campaign is archived after being assigned to a template, the device falls back to the template's fallback content.
Checkout Modes#
The checkout mode controls the donation experience on devices using the template. Choose the mode based on the context where your devices will be used:
- Express — the fastest checkout with minimal steps. Donors tap an amount and pay immediately — no receipt prompt is shown. Ideal for high-traffic situations like Jumu'ah where speed is critical.
- Quick — a balanced flow that shows an optional contact form after a successful donation. Donors can provide their information for a receipt if they choose, but aren't required to. Good for most everyday use cases.
- Standard — the full checkout that collects donor name and contact information based on your organization's settings. Best for seated events like galas where donors have time to complete a full form.
A StandPro in a busy masjid lobby during Jumu'ah benefits from Express mode, while a Handheld at a seated gala dinner works well with Standard.
Maximum Donation#
Every template has a maximum donation amount — a safety limit that prevents accidental large charges on physical devices. If a donor enters an amount above the limit, the device won't process the transaction.
Fallback Content#
Fallback content displays on the device when the primary campaign or group is unavailable — for example, if the referenced campaign has been archived. You can configure a fallback title and message so the device always shows something meaningful rather than a blank screen.
The fallback also applies when a campaign has no media configured — the template's fallback title and message are used as a last resort.
Propagation#
When you update a template — changing the content source, checkout mode, or any other setting — the changes take effect on all linked devices. Changes can take a few minutes to propagate to all devices to minimize disruption to any donations in progress.
Managing multiple devices at once
Template propagation makes it easy to manage fleets of devices. Switching a template's content from "Ramadan 2026" to "Eid Collection" updates every device using that template — no need to reconfigure each device individually.
