Funds

Funds organize your donations by purpose — routing contributions from multiple campaigns into financial pools for tracking, reporting, and compliance.

Funds are the financial layer of Nizam's fundraising system. A fund is a pool of money that collects donations across one or more campaigns. While campaign groups control how donors see your campaigns, funds control where the money goes. The two systems are completely independent — a campaign can belong to a campaign group and deposit into a fund simultaneously.

Campaigns, Funds, and Campaign Groups#

Understanding the difference between these three concepts is essential:

  • Campaigns answer "what are donors giving to?" — each campaign is a single fundraising initiative (a masjid construction drive, a Zakat fund, a Ramadan appeal) with its own checkout and donation tracking
  • Campaign groups answer "what do donors see?" — they are presentational groupings that can bundle campaigns on a single page
  • Funds answer "where does the money go?" — they are financial groupings for accounting, reporting, and compliance

Multiple campaigns can share a fund without being in the same campaign group, and campaigns in the same group can deposit into different funds. The three systems are designed to work independently so your financial structure doesn't have to match your donor-facing presentation.

General Fund#

Every organization has a General Fund that cannot be removed. It serves as the default destination — new campaigns are automatically assigned to the General Fund unless you choose otherwise. If a custom fund is deleted, its associated campaigns and transactions are automatically reassigned here.

Custom Funds#

Create custom funds to separate finances by purpose. A masjid might have funds for "Operations," "Zakat," "Construction," and "Youth Programs" — each collecting donations from different campaigns but tracked independently for accounting and compliance.

Each fund has a name, a color for visual identification across the dashboard, and an optional internal note for your team.

Removing a Fund#

When a custom fund is removed, all its campaigns are automatically reassigned to the General Fund. Donation data is preserved — transactions remain attached to their campaigns, which now point to the General Fund.
